iPad USB Cable Melts While Charging
We know that iPads might get a little bit warm while they're charging, after all the battery under that aluminum is pretty large. What one user didn't expect is to wake up early in the morning to the smell of burning plastic. He noticed the iPad was piping hot when he tried to disconnect the USB cable from the dock connector.

The iPad was so hot that his reaction was to drop it on the ground, hence the dent in the corner. The USB cable is clearly melted and discolored due to a malfunction in the cable or inside the iPad dock connector port. The iPad charger is 10 watts, with potential to pack quite a punch should there be a problem or short while connected.
This is the first time we've heard of an iPad USB cable melting. Considering that over three million iPads are in use all over the world, the safety record for charging the device remains impeccable. Just be aware that, as with any electrical appliance, sometimes things can go horribly wrong.
Unfortunately for the iPad user who sent CrunchGear the photo, representatives of Apple at the Genius Bar declined his request for AppleCare service. He had jailbroken the iPad, violating his warranty on the device. Presumably, with the USB cord and dock connector port burned up, there was no way to restore to factory settings.

Sounds like someone dropped their iPad and tried to devise a way to get a new one without paying for it. How about some shots of the port? Right.

Scrolling thru a wiki, pressed between half a screen kbd and the other half boorish masthead (that should reduce after joining. Okay I get it) it's like tip toeing thru a field of land mines - proportionally worse on my iPhone. God I hate me some wiki navigation. Besides being curious and spending tons of money, enduring the repetition and hard to remember what I did with it obscurity of membership to every flipping knucklehead site with a decent topic; What did I do to deserve wiki land mine loaded cruched by adverts the other price to endure to reach pouches of content???
And our jailbreak burned up cable is an example of the weakness in the receptacle design of dock. The weight and momentum of "setting" the iPad down can bend and short pins. The strain relief on the cable itself needs inspection. Also to unplug transformer while not in use is green and electrically savvy. Pursuing warranty relief is difficult without being a convict. Good luck there. Tough break
Re: iPad USB Cable Melts While Charging
Dumb ass - you can see the soot on the connector from where this clown used a cigarette lighter or candle to melt the plastic. He probably dropped it then thought he could claim for a new one. Glad apple told him to fek off - jailbreak or not.

Lol, no surprise to me... my daughters Iphone had the same problem. When she picked it up while it was on charge, she immediately dropped it, though on carpet, because of how very hot it had become. The port and charger were charred brown and Apple took care of her by giving her a new phone and charger.

What is the image reflecting on the iPad screen? Looks a little R rated to me.
