Can I shuffle a playlist / album on the iPad?
You can, but the shuffle feature is harder to find on the iPad. To shuffle songs from your music collection or a smart playlist in the iPod app:
1. Touch the Songs button.
2. Drag down on the list to reveal the hidden Shuffle function at the top of the song list.
3. Touch Shuffle to mix up the tracks. You can reveal the hidden Shuffle function at the top of a smart playlist, too.
To shuffle songs from a single album:
1. Touch the Albums button.
2. Double tap the album you want to hear.
3. Play any song from the album.
4. Touch the cover of the Now Playing album in the lower left corner to bring up full screen.
5. Double tap the screen for a track listing.
6. The Shuffle function in the upper right corner can be selected to mix up the tracks from the chosen album.

To shuffle Songs on iPad, make sure you don't have the repeat or reply songs activated. You can see this icon by double tapping the white songs screen. It displays a black screen with songs in white letters and in the upper left corner you will see the replay icon. If it is blue, tap it to turn it white (deactivated). The shuffle icon is on the upper right of the screen. Make sure it is blue (active)
The drag-down option only works for ALL your music, not for playlists, and there's no point making playlists if the only way to shuffle what's in them is album by album.
Does anyone know how to shuffle songs in an iPad iPod app playlist? So far not one of the online discussions I've seen answers this question.
Follow these steps, they work for the playlist as well. Just pick any album off your playlist and try it; enjoy!!! :O)

We want the WHOLE playlist not just a specific album and not ALL the music either...is there a way to do that?
Just got it working myself. Got the three Ella Songbooks in one playlist. Click on the playlist, start the first song, click on the album cover lower left corner to bring it up full screen (mine shows controls and says it is playing track 1 of 189 rather than just the 65 of that album). In the controls there is a shuffle icon to the right of the progress bar, click that.
I wasn't sure but after first song on first album, it skipped to a song on the second album. Stayed on second album for three more songs but song 6 now from third album so this definitely works.
Yes, there is a way: Once you're in the playlist and playing a song, tap the album cover under "Now Playing." Then tap the screen again, and you should see a controls bar. Tap the randomize icon (two arrows on the far right-corner of the time slider). That should do the trick.
It doesn't - it just stops at the end of the song.

When in the playlist, click the album artwork for the current song. Tap it again, and you get controls, including a shuffle button.
I'm listening to a shuffled playlist as we speak...
This works for genres too.
