The question is, "Can I USE the iPad with Tiger or Panther?"
We do this all the time! Using compatible file formats, and e-mail and/or the cloud, our nine-year-old Panther iMac and six-year-old iPad manage to communicate, albeit indirectly and somewhat clumsily. (Backing up is the stickiest part.)
I can imagine some wizards make their iPads "talk" with OS9!
First it was no chrome for tiger and now no iPad???? What is apple thinking? I got my iPad n now ill have to upgrade to leopard? He'll no! I'm throwing the iPad away!
Throw it my way:-)
Why would the Mac specs be 10.5.8 or higher when the Windows specs are only Windows XP, Vista etc. Are Apple saying Tiger isn't/wasn't as advanced as those Windows systems?!
I've asked Apple to confirm that I wouldn't be able to load music and photos from my Mac running Tiger (10.4.11) but they haven't responded.
um, Thats like saying that Windows 7 won't support an mp3 or a jpeg that I have stored on my Windows 98 machine.
Um . no it is not. the release gap between 98 and w7 is 12 years, whereas the MacOS10.4 to to 10.6 is 4 years
True but XP SP3 is almost a year and a half older than Tiger!?
I am not an Apple Genius and this is only my educated guess, but the improvements in both iCal, Mail as well as other application support changed greatly from Tiger to Leopard. Including the option to have enterprise support.
Apple probably made that call for Leopard so users who enter information on the iPad then sync to the Computer will not have a "fall out" because Tiger Applications do not support what Leopard and Snow Leopard Apps do.
In short I do not believe it is the operating system that is necessary at fault but the apps that are native to Tiger that can not sync properly with the iPad.
Hi,
I am in France and i addressed the same issue to our Apple support. They understood my concern and they are ready to help me at least in providing me with a Leopard version as Snow Leopard does not work on my so old PPC processor (i have an iMac G5 PPC)
I will let you know what will happen exactly
