Can I use my iPhone 4 micro-SIM in the iPad for data?

No. The two micro-SIM cards are not interchangeable.

The micro-SIM in the iPad is designed specifically for flexible data, while the iPhone 4 micro-SIM handles voice and additional functions. Although both micro-SIM cards are the same size, they will only work in the intended device.

This statement is definitely not true and should be changed to "yes, you can".

Hi

One caveat to swaping sim cards

I noticed that if you swapped your iphone4 sim to ipad 3g, you loose the sms received during the time

Actually, yes, it would work. The SIM card design is no different, whether it is for the iPhone or iPad. The only difference is in the way the operator provisions your account over the SIM card.

If you insert your iPhone's SIM card into the iPad, you will be able to browse the internet. However, if you insert the iPad SIM card into the iPhone, you will only be able to browse the internet and not make phone calls.

Please get your facts right before posting.

I SIM swap between the BlackJack II (it has a keyboard that I prefer when out of town) and the iPhone 3G, but when I swap the SIM back into the iPhone, I have to call support and have them manually reset my plan from PDA to iPhone profile... before iOS 3.x this did not occur but now it seems that AT&T "locks" onto the phone model and enforces some plans.
