Can the iPad stream music directly to my AirPort Express?

Not as of OS 3.2, no.

The iTunes interface on the iPad is provided by the iPod application. This is not iTunes and has a much more limited feature set.

Whether Apple plans to provide the ability for the iPad to stream music directly to the AirPort Express is unclear, but it seems unlikely, given that this feature has yet to appear on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

One aspect that might have prevented this with the iPhone or iPod Touch was battery consumption. The iPad's has a greatly increased battery capacity might leave the door open for some possibility of this feature coming in the future.

I just got an original iPad with 4.3 iOS

If my iTunes is set to go my airport express, my pandora audio goest there to. This rocks I do not have to play anything in iTunes just open iPod app and select airport

I do not use yet the iOS 4.3, i still use the 4.2.1 (I'm too lazy to update it) and I just figured out that I can stream music from my iPad directly to m'y airport express! that pretty cool !!!

How are you streaming? Direct from iPad? This is what I want

Grrrr.... another reason Apple totally piss*s me off sometimes. I buy an aiport for streaming, buy an ipad for all the good things it does, but together they don't do the most obvious thing...STREAM AUDIO and VIDEO? How can this be?

Someone mentioned concern about battery life. If this is at all true, thanks Apple for playing daddy for me, but let me decide if this is something I can handle. After all, I can just leave my ipad plugged in and charging.

But you can use the "Remote" app to make the iPad to control the music you have in iTunes on your Mac or PC and play that through your airport express. The music is still streaming from your computer...not your iPad, but you have full control over it from any room using Remote on your iPad.

Developers currently don't have the ability to do this on an iPad. They can only do the opposite, play audio on your computer through your iPad speakers, which is probably not what you want. For an iPad to be able to send audio to an Airport Express, it would have to be built into the iPad's OS, or into the application that the audio is sourced from.

You can, however, stream audio from your iPad via Bluetooth. Read how to do this here:

Thanks for the advice above. Remote certainly helps with accessing libraries. However I cant then get the music across to my airport express which is plugged into out stereo system. Mainly because I'm using wifi for imac to pad access and then can't connect to airport express in the same chain as it were. Any suggestions?

This is my vote to get this feature into iPad at a minimum. Without it, the iPad really doesn't have much of a role at my house or office. Of course it's tough to argue with the 2M others who have bought one, but it's just such a big miss - seems like the genius's at Apple would get this figured out.

Hello!
I have the solution for send your music from your iphone to the airport express directly without ITUNES. With the application quickplay it's working!

But I have another problem, my Airport express work several seconds and after it stops. Maybe the upload is too high.

It's working completely with you?
