Does the iPad support or read iCalendar / Outlook Meeting Invitations / .ics files?

No. Apple does not have this file format listed as a Mail-supported attachment type on the iPad. Unfortunately this means that double-clicking on the file won't open the calendar invitation.

Users will have to open the .ics attachment using an email client on their Mac or PC, then sync the appointment details to the iPad using iTunes.

This is my first opportunity to visit this website. I found some interesting things and I will apply to the development of my blog. Thanks for sharing useful information.

Was hoping that .ics files would now open on my iPhone. Guess What???
NOPE!

When, I ask When?

Not fixed in iOS 4. Big big let-down.

Hopefully the whole clendar and it's support for .ics mail attchements will be fixed by Apple in the next OS!

This has been an issue for iPhone users that do not chose to sync the mail accounts with iTune / Exchange or similar...
(Use the iPhone as the primary tool/device for mail and calendar)

So you will only be able to look on the fancy .ics attachment picture at the moment! (This is really crap!)

I expect a new better calendar in OS4 that will handle this?
(But who knows...)

Calendar enhancements that we would like to see:

- Better Task and overview in the calendar would help, hard to see calendar entries in some views today! (A popup view maybe!)
- Smaller fonts is needed, zoom out / zoom in function
- Better assignment of tasks/calendar colors
- Tasks with subtasks to make it more useable for tracking of activites and projects etc.
- Import/Export function to make standalone backup, without need for syncronization to a exchneg server. (Also needed for notes/contacts etc)

So lets hope for a new nice/better calendar in the next OS 4.0 release from Apple.

There's an app for that - opens your ICS file that you get in email (or Safari). Calendar View.

Suck WTF is apple thinking?? Calendars have been around awhile guys. 6.4% of the us pc market THIS IS WHY.......crap like this

Works ok as a stop gap, but looks like crap and doesn't import into iCal

I just ran into this problem myself and earlier on my iPhone. Doesn't sound very "revolutionary" to me.
