How do I use multitasking on an iPad with iOS 4?
Apple has added their own custom multitasking solution to iOS 4.2.1 on the iPad. Apps that are updated to take advantage of the feature will run in the background. Others can be launched quickly with a shortcut from the multitasking dock.
To use multitasking on the iPad:
1. Run any app.
2. Press the home button. Instead of quitting the app will run in the background (apps without background support will quit).
3. Double press the home button to bring up the multitasking dock.
4. Icons for running background apps will appear along the dock at the bottom of the screen, along with recently used apps that have quit.
5. Scroll left and right in the multitasking dock to see all icons.
6. Touch an app to bring it to the foreground or restart the app.
7. Note: if you access the multitasking dock from inside a running app, the app you're currently running does not appear in the dock.
To quit an app that is running in the background (or delete a recently used app icon):
1. Double press the home button to bring up the multitasking dock.
2. Touch and hold an app icon in the dock until it wiggles.
3. Press the red circle on the icon of the app to remove it.
4. To finish editing your multitasking dock, press the home button.
