Some of that would depend on who your email provider is. Most of the filing or organizing is done by setting up folders and rules for incoming mail, which can be done at the source.

For example, I use GMail. When I go to the GMail website, I can create folders for my mail, like Family, Work, Purchases, etc. Those folders also show up on my iPad.

Could you explain a bit more about what you would like to do, and who your email provider is?

Deni,
Thanks for the reply. I'm on MS Outlook (Professional)via my company's server, where I'm filing things to my "C" drive, but I'm willing to settle on any filing system which I can, then, transfer when I get back to the office.

Ok, so you are using Exchange Server & Outlook. You can set up your rules inside Outlook.

Example: You can make an incoming mail folder called Email From Boss. Then you make a rule that says an email from xyz address goes automatically into that folder. Outlook will then automatically send any new incoming email to that folder.

When you set up the email on your iPad, you use the Exchange options, and you will see all the same inboxes and folders with your mail pre-sorted just like you would on your computer.

But, as for taking your mail OFFLINE and storing it into a folder on your PC, that is a whole different animal.

You might want to check out Evernote. You can copy and paste your email into different notebooks, and the notebooks will sync between mobile platforms and PC's, so you can then take your notes when you get to your base PC, and store them on your C drive.

Let me know if that answered your question...

Don't forget, iOS4 is finally bringing message threading to the iPhone/iPad! Can't wait.

Oh, and unified Inbox (which I care about just as much as threading).
