Best boardgames for the iPad

A good port, Small World from http://www.daysofwonder.com/smallworld/en/ipad . It is limited to 2 human players only :( , no AI players. iPad is put between two players, like a game board and game is played. So, no AI, or wifi, network play, but still a good game. $4.99 at the app store.

Anyone know of any German-style table top board game ports? Would love to see a Memoir '44 port to the iPad.

Few more I found

"Reiner Knizia's Money"
"Reiner Knizia's Keltis"
(need to search on all 3 words to find these)

The game Tsuro, renamed PathologyHD at the app store.

Werewolf (the card game), search for werewolf curse of Pandora

Anyone found a decent chess game yet? I tried one, but the graphics were unimpressive. Can't remember the name now.

Need to state what you are looking for, lots of options with this game. I have seen one 99 cent one that is just the game board and pieces, you can save the game, period. No rule checking, i.e. just what you get from a real boxed set. Which for some people is what they want. I haven't tried any yet.. but.

BoardBox is interesting in that you can, from what I have read, play via of email. So, if you want to play with a distant friend, not in real time, this is nice. It is again a real boardgame, i.e. no AI players. Not sure how the remote email player does their move, i.e. if it will automagically update the iPad game, or if the other player(s) can use any email client. The email gaming function is what I would want. Just a slow, stay in touch game, with a friend. I don't like the looks of this one as much as other ones I have seen.

BoardBox info says...
15 board games, including:
- Chess
- Checkers
- Reversi
- Tic Tac Toe
- Go
- International Draughts
- Xiangqi
- Westernized Xiangqi
- plus 5 Chess and 2 Go variants!
- Email multiplayer

Would be interested in seeing what other have found, too. My gripe with Apple app store is the lack of real info given to the apps. You have no clue as to what you are getting. Apple should require a link to a full description of these products, and an overview of instruction of play . Some are just one line sentence.

MU card game..

Another port of a well known card game by Rio Grande Games... worth looking at.
Only seems a bit hard to understand/learn, but, is really very simple. Just have to read those rules first. :)

It is a trick taking game.

Search on all 5 words at app store.
mu house full of games

What is a "German-style" board game? How is it different from a regular board game?

I would like to hear someone that tried Scrabble, preferably with two iPhones and the iPad. That's exactly the scenario I have with my girlfriend, it would be awesome to know. And lots of friends have iphones, it could be awesome. Or I can be part of a review team here and review this game.

oops, the above was in reply to

Lack of luck in the game, or luck plays no big part, simple instructions, short to play, less than an hour?, no one gets removed from the game.

Excellent example of German board game. Requires 3 people or more to play.
Try picking up a copy of The Settlers of Catan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Settlers_of_Catan

I think it is coming to the iPad.

A review of Catan found here.... http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9971.phtml

Here is a site of a geek that loves boardgames too,
http://www.boardgameswithscott.com/
All reviews are almost all German style, zero computer games, zero video games.

The games I posted are all German style board games mapped to the iPad. Good for travel, vacations where you don't want to lose your parts, and price is cheap on the iPad. Be warned, German-style board games will set you back $50.00 or more. The parts are more high quality, i.e. board printed on cloth, wooden pieces parts. Check on "Ticket to Ride Marklin". Good family game you can even get the wife or girlfriend to play. Requires two people or more.

Thanks, hoodedcrow.
I had never heard that term before and the wiki article was helpful.
