I thought the iPad was "neat" looking when Apple announced it was coming out. Once I played with it in the store I had to have it. My laptop died and I wanted something small and portable but I really didn't need another laptop (we already have 2 and a desktop).
I am a Blackberry person. I have never even touched an iPhone so I don't know if I would like it or not. I just bought my husband an iPod touch to replace his original iPod and I liked that ok. For me it's about the address book, calendar and SMS messaging. And I also like being able to go back and forth with different apps at once.
The iPhone simply works better than all other phones.
Love Apple or hate Apple, it just works.
I don't know if that is 100% true, but I know there are a lot of people out there who feel that way. I kind of feel like, the parts that Apple decide are important to people work just fine - but, if Apples doesn't think I need it, or that I want something, too darn bad. That's a problem for me. Part of the reason I jailbreak of course. It gives me back a bit of control, and I can decide what I think is important on a device.
The Sprint EVO and the HTC Incredible seem pretty cool too. I haven't played with them for long, and honestly, I do love the iPhone interface. Besides, I've invested tons of money into apps for it. Why would I want to switch way from that platform and have to start all over again with apps? The iPhone isn't going anywhere any time soon, so it makes sense to me.
My wife just bought me a iPad for my birthday last night. This is a little EARLY, my B-day is Oct 4, but, she will be leaving town then, and didn't want to give me such an expensive gift in front of family, anyway.
Never had an iPhone, iPod, or and iAnything except an older iMac awhile back.
I do have a MacMini and an eMac, but, the iPad really rocks!
She took me to the store with her so she didn't get the wrong thing, and since she was getting it, didn't want to scrimp, so she went for the 64GB model. Had no desire for 3G though, have enough of a bill with Sprint, so, we went with the WiFi model since I will probably always be using it within reach of WiFi.
I probably will not be taking my laptop on anymore airplane rides! Too much trouble with airport security, plus, I'll be able to do most everything I do on my laptop with the iPad anyway.
Glad to have found this place. Hope to learn alot here.
My iPad is my first Apple device. I love it and may well switch to a Mac for my next computer! Never had an iPhone, never even touched one...... and now, having the iPad, not sure I need one!! Not a big phone user.
I love my iPad and have used (but do not own) an iPhone. I own a Palm Pre smartphone and comparing the operating systems (iOS vs WebOS), IMO WebOS is a superior operating system for both a phone and a tablet. When HP/Palm releases their tablet (Q2 2011), I will probably switch to it. That said, the iPad will still be much more popular. The apps available for iPad and it's siblings will never be rivaled.
