Will you the iPad make a good eBook reader??

do you all see the ipad being a good ebook reader?

I'm worried about eye strain. all the popular ebook readers have eink screens. With no eink on the ipad - is it really going to be a good ebook reader?

I won't be reading ebooks on it, that's for sure.

LCD screens are way too hard on my eyes to read an entire book on them.

Working on them all day is enough.

I think this screen should be ok... adjustable brightness and very sharp resolution will look nice

Is 1024x768 considered "very sharp" on a screen thus size?

For comparison:

iPad is 132 ppi
iPhone is 163 ppi
24 inch iMac is 94 ppi

I won't be reading to much on it because there is a backlight, which strains the eyes more than an e-ink display. An LED screen is more responsive than an e-ink display, and the touch screen page turn is nice, though.

ipad looks good but you can't beat e-ink. It looks like a real book. Apple can make nice looking graphics but after a while eyestrain will be just like using a computer.

yeah but e-ink can't show movies, photos, play games, etc ... so to me, the iPad is a MUCH more versatile device ... more bang for yer buck

Should be fine for reading indoors but keep it out of the sunshine.
Warning! Don't take it on the beach. It won't look good with a wet salty sandy tan.

I can't imagine taking an e-ink reader to the beach either. I can't imagine what sand would do to one of those matte screens.

I can! That's why I gave the warning.
