Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
I did, with Spirit. Took about 3 minutes total, including the re-boot. Easiest JB I have ever done.
I was having some issues with the iPad's WiFi and then with the clock losing time from sleep, and the day after I did the JB, it was losing more time than ever, and the reconnection to WiFi (or lack thereof) was becoming intolerable. I was on the verge of taking it to the Apple store, but before I could do that I had to restore to get the JB off. All I needed was for a genius to see the Cydia icon and I would have been doomed!
Anyway, after the restore, it hasn't lost any time that I am aware of, and I check it now on a pretty regular basis. The WiFi is also better. I have no idea why, but I have kept it with me, rather than returning it.
I did the JB a second time once I knew I would be keeping it with me, and the restore process, while SLOW is not insurmountable.
So far, the only JB app I've installed has been FullForce. It's an awesome app that will let some (but not all!) iPhone apps run in iPad mode, NOT 2X. It's great not to have the double pixelation issues of the 2X. It doesn't work great with games, but it's great for text driven apps, like Facebook, BeeJive IM, Stanza and mobile banking.
I was gonna try out that bluetooth stack to see how it was using a mouse, but I haven't been able to lay my hands on a BT mouse. I guess they aren't quite as common as you might think, unless you use Apples mouse, and I don't particularly care for it - I'd rather have one that I can also use with my laptops and whatnot.
So far, there aren't tons of JB apps out there that are fully compatible with the iPad. I've seen a couple of different lists out there for compatibility, but I don't even have that many JB apps on my iPhone, but the few I do have are essential for me.
If you have questions, let me know, I'd be happy to answer anything.
Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
Just did the JB on my 3G (which FINALLY got here yesterday!!!) and it took about 30 seconds longer than on the WiFi only version. It rebooted, and then I did see a splash screen with a timer bar for about 20 seconds, and then it rebooted again and was done. Smooth as silk.
Also, once I put FullForce back on, since I had restored the 3G from a backup of the WiFi, all of my previous settings were still there! Pretty cool for me.
FullForce remains the only JB app I have installed. Anyone else have anything that is proven to work installed yet?
I did, of course, hit the "Make My Life Easier" button on Cydia as well. I know I captured something on the other one and stored it, but now I have to remember what it was and where I found the instructions...LOL.
Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
It was the ECID & SHSH Blobs I grabbed for future reference. I did that with my iPhones as well, but have never needed to use them. I suppose, better safe than sorry.
This is the link for instructions for AutoSSH. This will also pull the ECID for you, but it goes by pretty quick for such a long number. It might be in the blob, but I'd still want it written down. http://www.techtosh.com/ipad/save-ipad-shsh/
Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
So one of the things that might make me jail break is the ability to use a USB flash drive (http://www.geekword.net/usb-drive-ipad/). Im a med student and ppl often pass around lectures. Of course this requires the purchase of the expensive adapter. The inability to use as flash drive is a major problem with the ipad, and I use this often enough for this to make me want to jailbreak. Anyone, done this? How well does/doent it work?
Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
The camera kit is $30 - not that expensive at all, considering what you get with it and especially when you compare with the cost of the iPad. I'm actually surprised that it came in a $30 rather than $50.
Re: Who has jailbroken their iPad so far? Experiences?
Cheap compared to the iPad, but still $30 - and you have to jailbreak - is annoying. A USB port would have been nice, or at least allowing file transfer via USB. Physical file transfer from an outside computer is something the iPad needs if it is going to grow up into a totally independent device. Its close now, but not quite there yet. I'd also love to see wireless synch like android. Has anyone found a jailbreak app that allows you to do something like this?
