Yes, that's apple's official position--that it doesn't need a screen protector. I just feel more secure with one on. I am not concerned with whether a pen or a nail can scratch it. It would be much more likely that I would drag something sharp--like a tiny grain of sand--across the screen and cause a scratch. With the screen protector on, I don't have to worry about it at all.

Oh man I just pictured that happening and it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. My first iPhone had a scratch in the lower left corner and I never did figure out how it happened.
