Evidence Points to Camera in Next iPad
Submitted by Franklin Macey on Thu, 04/15/2010 - 12:15Apple has some interesting things planned for the second generation iPad. With new evidence surfacing every week, it's all but certain the next iPad will include a camera. The question is whether we will be capturing images from the front, back or both sides of the new iPad.

As expected, iPhone OS 4 has support for the rear-facing iPhone camera, and is coming to the iPad this fall. What's more surprising is TUAW reported that a process called "iChatAgent" is running in the new operating system. Although interesting, Mac users know that iChat can be used without video.
Apple Delays International iPad Release Date
Submitted by Fred Straker on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 10:54Apple iPad fans outside the US will have to wait an extra month to get their hands on the device. Pre-ordering will open up to users in select countries starting May 10, with a ship date later the same month.

According to a statement by Apple, the iPad has been "a runaway success" in the US. Due to the half a million units sold in its first week and Wi-Fi + 3F models shipping later in April, Apple decided to push back its plans for international distribution.
Google Tablet to Compete with Apple iPad
Submitted by Fred Straker on Mon, 04/12/2010 - 15:29Google is working on a tablet of its own, but will it be an iPad-killer? The rivalry between Google and Apple gets hotter every day, and with the introduction of Apple's iAd this week at the iPhone 4 keynote, the two companies look headed to all-out war.

The New York Times has confirmed a Google device is in development, and reports that CEO Eric Schmidt will base his tablet on the Android operating system. The company has already had secret discussions with a few publishers to work on delivering content to the future tablet.
iPad Insurance and Extended iPad Warranties: Get Some
Submitted by Chad Shmukler on Mon, 04/12/2010 - 08:59Depending on how you look at it, the "must have" iPad accessory might just be supplemental warranty or insurance protection. Not just something to extend AppleCare, but something that offers the kind of coverage that AppleCare doesn't. This means protection against accidents such as drops, spills and other mishaps and/or protection against theft. Enter third party iPad warranty and insurance policies.

Geohot Jailbreaks Apple iPad With Blackra1n
Submitted by Fred Straker on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 13:02Just a few short days ago, iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd demonstrated an initial porting of the Spirit jailbreak by @comex to the iPad. Now George Hotz (aka Geohot) is working on his blackra1n software to jailbreak the iPad.

Seen in the blog photo are blackra1n and Cydia icons (as some have pointed out, probably just a mockup) on Gehot's iPad screen. Proving that he's making progress, Geohot posted keys for the iPad 3.2 firmware and bootrom on his blog with a one-line comment reading, "This is more exciting than a lot of you realize." Only a day later he revealed that "verbose iPads look cool" and tweeted the picture below.
Convert Your iPad to a Netbook With LapDock
Submitted by Fred Straker on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 09:53Soon you can get the best of both worlds, or just fool your friends. The iPad LapDock is a simple case that makes your iPad look like a netbook. We all know the iPad is a touch-screen tablet, but what if you want a physical keyboard? The Apple Keyboard Dock requires a table. How to type comfortably while the iPad is on your lap?

iPad LapDock integrates your Apple wireless keyboard and iPad into one unit. Pictured above, the keyboard and iPad are safely nestled into the LapDock, giving it the familiar mobile computing form factor. The top can even be closed like a real netbook, protecting the iPad and wireless keyboard inside.
iPad Sales Announced, New OS Coming This Fall
Submitted by Fred Straker on Thu, 04/08/2010 - 14:36At today's iPhone 4 keynote speech, Steve Jobs announced that Apple has sold 450,000 iPads since launch day as of April 8. Those sales resulted in 600,000 iBooks downloads and no less than 3.5 million iPad application downloads to date. Not bad for less than a week.

In the US, Apple's share of mobile browser usage (Mobile Safari running in iPhone OS) totals 64 percent. The next closest competitor is Android OS with 19 percent, and BlackBerry comes in third with a 9 percent total. Apple has sold a total of 50 million iPhones and an additional 35 million iPod Touch devices, all running iPhone OS.

Best Buy: No More iPads in Stock
Submitted by Fred Straker on Wed, 04/07/2010 - 23:09Retailer Best Buy is sold out of the Apple iPad. For those looking to purchase the device at one of the 673 stores with Apple shops, the company expects a replenishment of iPads on Sunday, April 11. Best Buy stores are said to have launched the iPad on April 3rd with only five of each iPad model in stock, a total of 15 per store.

The Apple Store has no such inventory problems to date. Pre-ordering online for the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G model is still open, although a ship date for the cellular data-capable model has not been announced by Apple. The model is scheduled to be delivered in "late April" and it's unclear whether or not Best Buy will have these in stock immediately.
