YouTube is basically PG-13 but it is still a good idea for parents to monitor children when using the video sharing site. Google today has made that job a lot easier by launching its first app built specifically for kids 5 and under. YouTube Kids promises to make it safer and easier for children to search and view videos posted to YouTube.com by offering a variety of parental controls.
Parents don't have to worry about their children stumbling over inappropriate videos since the app only serves content appropriate for kids. Children can search for videos by particular interest or use the new kid friendly design to navigate through channels and playlists in four family friendly categories: Shows, Music, Learning and Explore. The app features channels by well known creators such as Jim Henson TV, National Geographic Kids and so on.
Parental controls include the ability to set a timer that alerts a child when it's time to put down their iPad or iPhone. Parents can also mute background music and sound effects, limit search settings and send Google their feedback to help improve the app.
