Apple finally added multitasking to the iPad with iOS 9.0, but unfortunately not all models support the new features. The iOS 9 multitasking features include:

Update: The iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 support all multitasking features.

- Slide Over: Open a second app without leaving the one you’re in. For example, you can look up something on the web, then open Notes, then swipe Notes away to return to the Safari app. (Supported Devices: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3)

- Split View: This allows iPad Air 2 users the ability to run two apps simultaneously, side-by-side. (Supported Devices: iPad Air 2)

- Picture in Picture: Use FaceTime or watch a video while using an app or Safari. (Supported Devices: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3)
