Can I create folders in the Mail app on my iPad?

Yes, you can create folders to keep your emails organized in the stock iOS app on any Apple device, such as the iPad or iPhone. The problem with the stock Mail app is that most people use it with an already existing email service, such as Yahoo or Gmail, and every email client is different. Most emails apps provide folder services and are easier to use than the stock Mail app. For example, the iOS Gmail app automatically provides separate sections for Primary emails, Social emails (notifications from popular services like Twitter and Facebook) and Promotions.

Here's how to add a new folder to the Mail app on your iPad (or iPod touch and iPhone):

  1. Navigate to the "Mailboxes" section of the Mail app on your device.
  2. Tap the Edit button in the top right hand corner.
  3. Tap New Mailbox and enter the name of your new folder.
  4. Tap Save to create the folder.

To move an email to your new folder just open the email and tap the file icon (the second icon at the bottom of your display after the flag) and select the folder name.
