The iPad Pro is almost 10 months old, which means it has been around long enough for Apple to start offering refurbished models. The 12.9-inch version is now available refurbished through Apple's online shop, starting at $679 for the 32GB WiFi-only model in Gold, Silver and Space Gray. You can also nab a refurbished cellular model for $919. That's $120 cheaper than a new WiFi-model and $160 off the 128GB cellular version .
All refurbished Apple products are certified, tested and come with a 1-year warranty. They also ship with a new battery and outer shell. This is an advantage over buying a used third-party model because it ensures you won't get a scratched up tablet with a battery that will die in a few months.
Apple offering refurbished iPad Pro models could also indicate that a new model may be around the corner, however, the future of the iPad is uncertain. There hasn't been many credible rumors about the second-generation tablet, but there was a leak of an alleged prototype back in July. It also wouldn't be shocking if Apple skipped one iPad cycle due to slumping tablet sales.
Apple released a 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro in March 2016, but it didn't help improve overall sales. Apple announced in July a decline in all hardware shipments in Q3 2016. While this is the first time the iPhone has seen a slump, iPad shipments have been slowing for a few years.
It is unknown if Apple will launch a second-generation iPad Pro in 2016, but if they do it will most likely be sometime in October, after the release of the iPhone 7.
