Amazon has ended its standoff with Apple by finally launching its Amazon Prime Video app for the Apple TV. Amazon Prime users can now download a separate app on the third-generation Apple TV or later. The app allows Apple TV owners to stream thousands of movies and TV shows.
Previously, iOS users had to stream Amazon Prime Video content using AirPlay on their iPhone or iPad. The new Amazon Prime Video app not only allows Prime subscribers to stream content directly from their Apple TV, but watchlists are also now synced between devices. The Prime Video app also supports universal search with the Siri Remote.
Amazon Prime Video is available with a $99 annual Prime subscription. An annual subscription gets you unlimited streaming of movies and TV episodes, free two-day shipping on eligible items from amazon.com, unlimited photo storage, access to the Kindle Lending Library and Audible, and more.
The Amazon Prime Video tvOS app can be downloaded in the Apple TV App Store for free on fourth-generation devices. Third-generation Apple TV owners who do not see the Apple TV app may have to perform a software update. Both the tvOS and iOS apps are available for free.
