New iPad Games of the Week: BioShock, Tiny Tower Vegas and More

Once again there were zero iPad-only games released to the App Store, but two big universal titles did arrive this week: BioShock and Tiny Tower Vegas. We should see an increase in App Store activity in a couple of weeks after Apple announces the iPhone 6 and releases iOS 8.

In App Store news, Rovio released a 16-second gameplay trailer for Angry Birds Stella before its September 4th launch. You can watch the trailer after the break. This weekend is the last chance to get the first wing of Hearthstone's "Curse of Naxxramas" expansion for free. After September 1st the wing will cost 700 in-game gold or $6.99, just like the other four levels.

As always, don't forget to check out our weekly App Store recap every Saturday for all the weekly universal releases, jailbreak tweaks, App Store news and important app updates.

PSA: Bioshock Coming to U.S. App Store Tonight

2K Games has released Bioshock to the New Zealand App Store, which means it should be available on the U.S. App Store around 11EST tonight. The game is $18.99 and it is only compatible with the iPad 4 or later, iPad mini 2, iPhone 5 or later and iOS 7.1 or later. It is rated 17+ and weighs in at 1.65 GB. Here's the official New Zealand App Store description:

Bioshock iOS

"One of the greatest first person shooters of all time, Bioshock comes to iOS!"

"Bioshock is the 'genetically enhanced' first person shooter where you can turn everything into a weapon: the environment, your body, fire and water, and even your worst enemies."

"You are a cast-away in Rapture, an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces, and hunted down by genetically modified 'splicers' and deadly security systems, you have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. No encounter ever plays out the same, and no two gamers will play the game the same way.

2K Games Announces BioShock Coming to iOS This Summer

2K Games, the team that successfully brought XCOM: Enemy Unknown to mobile devices, is working on BioShock for iOS. For those who don't know, BioShock is a popular first-person shooter that was released for the Xbox 360 in 2007. The iOS version will be another "premium" title, meaning it will cost around the same amount as XCOM when it was originally released for the iPad and iPhone. 2K Games caused an uproar on social media when it was originally announced that XCOM would be available for $20 on the App Store. Even with its high price tag the game was met with positive reviews and it was eventually dropped to only $10.

BioShock

BioShock has been scaled down graphically to work with Apple devices. The iOS version is also "distinctly less immersive" than the original, according to Engadget. Both Engadget and Polygon said the game plays well on the iPad but not when using the touch controls. Luckily BioShock will come with Bluetooth support so players will be able to use an external MFi controller instead of the onscreen option.
