Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac has been slinging out the Apple rumors at a rapid pace on Wednesday. "Trusted sources" told Gurman that the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 will both make their official debuts at Apple's scheduled September 9th media event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA.
The iPad mini 4 is powered by Apple's A8 processor with with 2GB of RAM. The A8 chip features with 64‑bit architecture and M8 motion coprocessor. The fourth-generation mini is available in three storage capacities for both the Wi-Fi and cellular models (16GB, 64GB, 128GB).
No current Apple devices are waterproof. The closest waterproof Apple product is the Apple Watch, which is only listed as "water resistant". There are waterproof cases available for the iPad mini 3, but they will probably not fit the iPad mini 4 since it is expected to feature a new design.
None of Apple's iOS products include a USB port, but there are many third-party adaptors available for connecting external devices to your iPad or iPhone.
Update: Starting on March 21, 2017 the fourth-generation iPad mini is now only available as a 128GB model. The 128GB WiFi-only model is available for $399 and the WiFi + Cellular model is $529 through apple.com. This makes the iPad mini more expensive than the current 9.7-inch iPad model.
The iPad mini 4 features a 7.9-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch display with 2048-by-1536 resolution at 326 pixels per inch (ppi), and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, fully laminated display plus antireflective coating.
Next-generation camera rumors are hard to confirm since it is impossible to know how many megapixels and what features they support based on leaked images and renderings. However, the fourth-generation iPad mini is rumored to be receiving some major upgrades to make up for the lackluster iPad mini 3. The iPad mini 4 is expected to ship with at least an 8MP iSight camera, like the iPad Air 2, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
The iPad mini 4 is expected to be released sometime in fall 2015. Specs and official release date are unknown at this time, but rumors have suggested that the fourth-generation iPad mini will resemble the iPad Air 2.
