The official Hack In The Box Twitter page seems to have confirmed that pod2g and Chronic Dev Team will announce their new jailbreak at a special event on Friday in Amsterdam. Part one of the event is listed on the official HITB agenda to start at 11:30am on May 25th. Part 2 of the event will begin at 1:30pm after a "lunch break." That's is around 7am EST in the US.

Pod2g made a few tweets about the iPad 2 and iPad 3 prior to HITB's announcement:

OK just added iPad3,3 support to Absinthe thanks to @flawlessfox. Only remains iPad2,4 now but we need the actual device.

Any people of #HITB2012AMS has an iPad2,4? Model number: either MC954 or MC989. Please check in Settings / General / About”

iPad 3 Jailbreak Only a Few Days Away [iOS 5.1.1]

Pod2g made a big announcement one day before the Hack In The Box security conference in Amsterdam is set to kick off. The iOS hacker announced that it's only a matter of days until an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak is released.

Previously pod2g tweeted "something big’s going to happen at HITB related to jailbreaking." He also linked to the Chronic Dev Team's Twitter page in the same tweet. The Dev Team will be creating the bundled tool for the jailbreak when it's released.

Read on for the complete list of supported devices. iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G owners should be happy to notice that both devices have been added to the supported section.

Will iOS 6 Bring Siri to the iPad?

Apple is expected to preview iOS 6 at the WWDC on June 11 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. It's pretty much confirmed that they will drop Google Maps in favor of the the 3-D mapping tech they gained from the acquisition of C3 Technologies.

While investigating the new Maps application rumor, TechCrunch‘s MG Siegler discovered that there are "whispers about Siri" coming to the iPad. Many had hoped that the new iPad would feature the voice assistant, but Apple did not include it with the third generation tablet. It's believed Siri was left out because the iPad is not always guaranteed to be connected to Wi-Fi or 4G.

iPad 3 Jailbreak Coming Soon!

It looks like an untethered iPad 3 jailbreak should be right around the corner. Pod2g released a video (see below) showing a jailbroken new iPad running iOS 5.1. On Friday, the IOS hacker confirmed that his new jailbreak also works with iOS 5.1.1, and should work with all iOS devices inculding the iPad 3 and iPhone 4S.

Pod2g tweeted: "OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. :-) No issue."

It's unknown when the new jailbreak will be released, but when it's, pod2g said it will be a bundled tool created by the Chronic Dev Team.

Another iPad Mini Rumor: October 2012 Release, $200 to $250

Apple is looking to put a strangle hold on the tablet market by releasing the iPad mini for $200 to $250 in October, according to iMore. The tech blog cites a "proven reliable" source who claims that Apple wants to do what they did "with the MP3 market in 2004 with the expansion of the iPod product line." By releasing an affordable alternative to the new iPad and iPad 2, Apple will be able to compete with entry-level tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire.

iPad Rumors

The source said that the 7-inch iPad will feature the same 2048x1536 resolution display as the new iPad.

"Our source has indicated, however, that the 7-inch iPad will be identical to the current 9.7-inch iPad, just scaled down. That seems to include a 2048x1536 resolution display, just like the new iPad. If accurate, that would put the pixel density at around 326 ppi, the same as the iPhone 4S (and higher than the 264 ppi new iPad) retina display."

iPad 3 Already Running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1

iPad hacker i0n1c has been teasing us with images of jailbroken iPads running iOS 5.1 since March, and he continues to amaze by releasing an image of his iPad 3 running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1 only a few hours after its release.

iPad Jailbreak

This doesn't necessarily mean an iPad 3 jailbreak will be made public in the near future, especially since i0n1c seems reluctant to share. However, the rest of the jailbreaking community is busy working on a new exploit. So there is still hope. Apple released iOS 5.1.1 a few days after pod2g announced that his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 was finally untethered, and i0n1c's photo proves that iOS 5.1.1 can be broken.

Apple Investigating iPad 3 Wi-Fi Issues

Apple has finally responded to the iPad 3 Wi-Fi complaints piling up on the Apple Support forums. An internal memo posted by 9to5Mac shows Apple is "capturing" any new iPads suffering from slow Wi-Fi speeds and poor connectivity. This means Apple Store employees will replace any third-generation iPad experiencing Wi-Fi issues so they can send the defective device back to Apple for inspection.
