Pixelmator updated with HEIF and Drag and Drop support

The popular photo editing app Pixelmator has been updated to version 2.4 with full support for iOS 11 and its new features. The update includes HEIF image support. High-efficiency image formats allow users to retain high image quality while using half the space as a JPEG. HEIF was introduced by Apple in iOS 11 and are used by the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 by default.

The popular photo editing tool Pixelmator has been updated to version 2.3. The update adds two new selection tools and a variety of other improvements.

The Quick Selection tool allows users to "make incredibly accurate selections," according to the release notes. This is helpful on touchscreen devices since it is harder to pinpoint an object to edit on smaller screens. The Magnetic Selection tool uses edge detection algorithms to "snap" precisely to the objects you trace.

The popular image editor Pixelmator has been updated to version 2.1. The update adds support for iOS 9 multitasking features such as Split View and Slide Over. The app also now supports 8K resolution images and Open in Place image management across iOS devices.

Pixelmator users can now edit pictures within the app while performing other tasks side-by-side, such as surfing Safari, or use the Slide Over feature to open a second app without leaving the photo editor.

The app was originally developed for Mac OS X, but in 2014 it was rebuilt from the ground up for iOS and launched on the iPad. Apple Names Pixelmator and Monument Valley iPad App and iPad Game of the Year

After wrapping up its "Red" promotion for World's AIDS Day, Apple has quietly released its Best of 2014 list featuring the company's favorite apps and games released to the App Store this year. Not surprisingly, Apple chose Pixelmator as the iPad app of the year. You may remember Apple demoed the photo editing app at its iPad Air 2 keynote in October. Pixelmator is available on the App Store for $9.99.

The award-winning Mac app that Apple previewed at its October keynote is now available for the iPad. Pixelmator has been rebuilt from the ground up specifically for iOS 8 and Apple's tablet. During the iPad demo at Apple's keynote, developer Aidas Dailide said that the photo editor is 2x faster on the iPad Air 2 thanks to Apple's new A8X processor.
