iOS Hacker pod2g Turns App Developer, Releases Virtual Turntable for the iPad

Absinthe co-creator pod2g has announced his first iOS app called podDJ. The new app turns your iPad into a virtual turntable for mixing and scratching any music in your iTunes library. Pod2g promises this is the "most realistic virtual turntable" in the App store.

PodDJ features an easy to use UI, a sound output latency of just 5 milliseconds, transform buttons, BPM detection, turntable emulation, monitor output, and support for an external mixer. Pod2g claims podDJ is the fastest scratching application available.

iPad 3 Jailbreak Confirmed for Friday?

UPDATE: The iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak has arrived. For iPad jailbreak instructions, click here.

The official Hack In The Box Twitter page seems to have confirmed that pod2g and Chronic Dev Team will announce their new jailbreak at a special event on Friday in Amsterdam. Part one of the event is listed on the official HITB agenda to start at 11:30am on May 25th. Part 2 of the event will begin at 1:30pm after a "lunch break." That's is around 7am EST in the US.

iPad 3 Jailbreak

Pod2g made a few tweets about the iPad 2 and iPad 3 prior to HITB's announcement:

OK just added iPad3,3 support to Absinthe thanks to @flawlessfox. Only remains iPad2,4 now but we need the actual device.

Any people of #HITB2012AMS has an iPad2,4? Model number: either MC954 or MC989. Please check in Settings / General / About”

iPad 3 Jailbreak Only a Few Days Away [iOS 5.1.1]

Pod2g made a big announcement one day before the Hack In The Box security conference in Amsterdam is set to kick off. The iOS hacker announced that it's only a matter of days until an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak is released.

iPad 3 Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1

Previously pod2g tweeted "something big’s going to happen at HITB related to jailbreaking." He also linked to the Chronic Dev Team's Twitter page in the same tweet. The Dev Team will be creating the bundled tool for the jailbreak when it's released.

Read on for the complete list of supported devices. iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G owners should be happy to notice that both devices have been added to the supported section.

Untethered iPad 3 Jailbreak Coming in a Couple of Weeks

I was a little nervous that I had jumped the gun by announcing that an iPad 3 jailbreak was coming soon, but I guess I was right. Pod2g has announced via his blog that iPad owners can "expect a release in a couple of weeks."

Pod2g is also finished testing the jailbreak on all the available iOS devices. This means that the next step should be a public release. The iOS hacker tweeted that the untethered jailbreak works on all three iPad models, the iPhone 4 and 4S. The iPod 3G, iPhone 3GS and ATV3 have been left out (UPDATE: See list of supported devices below).

iPad 3 Jailbreak Coming Soon!

It looks like an untethered iPad 3 jailbreak should be right around the corner. Pod2g released a video (see below) showing a jailbroken new iPad running iOS 5.1. On Friday, the IOS hacker confirmed that his new jailbreak also works with iOS 5.1.1, and should work with all iOS devices inculding the iPad 3 and iPhone 4S.

Pod2g tweeted: "OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. :-) No issue."

It's unknown when the new jailbreak will be released, but when it's, pod2g said it will be a bundled tool created by the Chronic Dev Team.

iPad 3 Already Running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1

iPad hacker i0n1c has been teasing us with images of jailbroken iPads running iOS 5.1 since March, and he continues to amaze by releasing an image of his iPad 3 running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1 only a few hours after its release.

iPad Jailbreak

This doesn't necessarily mean an iPad 3 jailbreak will be made public in the near future, especially since i0n1c seems reluctant to share. However, the rest of the jailbreaking community is busy working on a new exploit. So there is still hope. Apple released iOS 5.1.1 a few days after pod2g announced that his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 was finally untethered, and i0n1c's photo proves that iOS 5.1.1 can be broken.

Jailbreak Community Working Hard on iPad 3

Now that the iPad 3 is officially available the next big question is: "When will it be jailbroken?" Luckily the Dev Team and a few other developers are already working on a solution. Yesterday iOS hacker i0n1c, posted several pictures of a jailbroken iPad 2 running iOS 5.1. On Friday, the Dev Team said i0n1c is using a completely unrelated method to the one they're working on.

iPad 3 Jailbroken

The Dev Team wrote on their blog that "the method used to jailbreak the iPad 2 four months ago (before corona) still works even in 5.1." This is an important step in the right direction since it allows the Dev Team to get their hands on the required kernel dumps on the iPad 3. The Dev Team added that someone "close to the Cydia repo scene" is working on an entirely new jailbreak method, and pod2g is also working on finding vulnerabilities in 5.1. That's four possible chances that there will be a new jailbreak soon.

iOS 5.1 Jailbroken on the iPad 2

iPad hacker i0n1c published pictures of a jailbroken iPad 2 running iOS 5.1. i0n1c is known for releasing the iOS 4 untether that was killed when Apple released iOS 5.0. It's unknown if and when i0n1c will release his jailbreak to the public, but he did tweet: "Anyway so maybe the iPad 3 will not be jailbroken tomorrow, but on Monday or whenever I get my iPad 3."

iOS 5.1 Jailbreak

Pod2g, the hacker responsible for both the Corona and Absinthe jailbreak tools, is also working on finding vulnerabilities in 5.1. This is good news for people who accidently updated to 5.1 and lost their jailbreaks.

iPad 2 Jailbreak Instructions (iOS 5 / 5.01 Absinthe Untethered)

UPDATE: Instructions for using Absinthe for Windows are here.

iOS developer pod2g wasn't lying when he promised us an iPad 2 jailbreak was only a few days away. The Chronic Dev Team and a group of dream team iOS hackers have released the Absinthe jailbreak tool for Apple A5 devices running iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 firmware. This is the untethered iPad 2 jailbreak you have been waiting for since its release almost a year ago.

iPad 2 Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1

The long awaited hack is so popular that the greenpois0n servers crashed from the large amount of downloads on Friday. Hopefully most of the iPhone 4S owners have already jailbroken their devices, and things will start getting a lot smoother this weekend. The iPhone Dev-Team is also working on incorporating the A5 jailbreak procedures into redsn0w, and plan to release a command-line interface (CLI) for advanced users in the future. We'll keep you updated.

iPad 2 Jailbroken, Waiting For Public Release (iOS 5.0.1, Untethered)

Jailbreaking specialist pod2g released a picture of a untethered jailbroken iPad 2 via his blog on Wednesday. The iOS developer has been working on a series of untethered jailbreaks moving his way up from an iPod touch to A5 devices. On Monday, Chronic Dev Team member Dustin Howett posted a video showing off their latest untethered iPhone 4S hack.

Pod2g said that an A5 exploit is only a few days away from a public release. He previously released Corona for A4 devices. You can learn how to jailbreak the original iPad here.
